Pricing At a Glance

How Much Does Bookkeeping Cleanup Cost?

Fusion CPA prices bookkeeping cleanup and catch-up as fixed-fee projects starting at $1,000, with typical projects landing between $1,000 and $7,500 depending on months of backlog, transaction volume, and account count; a year or more of backlog, or multi-entity work, can exceed $10,000. Every quote is scoped from read-only access to the books before a number is given, and every project carries a written scope cap.

Backlog

Typical fixed fee

What it usually involves

Up to 3 months behind

typically $1,000 – $2,000

Reconciliations, recategorization, and a caught-up close for a single entity

3 to 6 months behind

typically $1,500 – $4,000

Backlog reconciliations plus chart of accounts corrections

6 to 12 months behind

typically $2,500 – $7,500

Extended backlog, COGS or inventory corrections, heavier categorization work

12+ months or multi-entity

typically $5,000 – $10,000+

Full-year-plus reconstruction, intercompany cleanup, quoted only after file review

For context, published 2026 benchmarks put standalone cleanup at $750 to $3,500 for smaller backlogs and $3,500 to $8,000 or more for a year-plus of history, commonly calculated as the monthly bookkeeping rate multiplied by months behind.

Two Paths, One Proposal

Do I have to commit to monthly service to get a cleanup?

No. Every Fusion CPA cleanup proposal quotes two paths side by side and the client chooses. The standalone path carries the full fixed fee with no commitment. Pairing the project with a 12-month recurring engagement earns a credit of 25 to 30 percent of the cleanup fee, applied against the first three months of ongoing service. The credit exists for a simple reason: books under ongoing care don’t re-break, so the engagement carries less risk and the pricing reflects that.

Transparent Scoping

What moves you above the starting price?

The $1,000 starting point assumes a short, clean backlog on a single entity. These are the factors that move a project up the range. The fixed fee is set after the read-only review and capped in writing, so the number never moves mid-project

Past-due tax filings uncovered during a cleanup, prior-year amendments, and multi-state catch-up compliance are quoted separately as fixed-fee add-on projects so the cleanup scope stays capped and predictable.

Months of Backlog

  • How far behind the books are
  • Whether any months were partially closed
  • Prior preparer quality
  • A single-entity business roughly eight months behind at a $600-per-month bookkeeping scope typically lands around $4,500 to $5,000 as a fixed-fee project.

    Volume & Account Count

  • Monthly transaction volume
  • Number of bank and credit card accounts
  • Inventory and COGS complexity
  • High-volume books with inventory across channels place above the band floor, confirmed after the read-only review.

    Entities & Data Condition

  • Entity count and intercompany activity
  • Commingled personal and business spending
  • Missing statements or source documents
  • A two-entity business a full year behind with commingled accounts typically lands between $7,500 and $10,000, quoted only after file review.

Multi-channel DTC brand, $3.2M annual revenue, 8 employees

S corporation selling through Shopify and Amazon FBA using QuickBooks Online, with 8 employees. Marketplace sales triggered sales tax nexus in 14 states. Two warehouses (GA and NV). Inventory values were inconsistent across sales channels.

    The Business Challenge

Prior CPA only filed federal returns and missed state obligations entirely.

Inventory valuation across Shopify, Amazon, and wholesale channels was inconsistent.

As a result, COGS was overstated by $140K.

Because the old accountant used prior-year safe harbor instead of current-year projections, quarterly estimated taxes were overpaid by $40K+.

    The Full Story

We reconciled inventory across all three channels and corrected a $140K COGS overstatement, then registered and filed in the 14 states where marketplace sales had created nexus. Quarterly estimates were rebuilt on current-year projections, recovering $40K in overpayments, and channel-level margin reporting now runs monthly.

    Law Firm

    Monthly investment$976 – $1,399/mo

    Mid-size litigation firm, 6 partners, 18 attorneys, $8.5M revenue

Limited liability partnership (LLP) using QuickBooks, with 6 partners and 18 attorneys. IOLTA trust accounts across three states. Partner compensation tied to origination credits and billable hours. Planning lateral hires that could change the equity structure.

    The Business Challenge

Trust accounting was handled by a part-time bookkeeper who left abruptly.

As a result, IOLTA reconciliation was 4 months behind.

Partner draws were based on handshake agreements, not a documented allocation methodology.

The firm had never modeled the financial impact of bringing on lateral partners at different equity tiers.

    The Full Story

We brought IOLTA reconciliation current across all three states and put a monthly trust compliance process in place. Partner compensation was documented with a written allocation methodology tied to origination and billable hours, and we modeled lateral partner scenarios at three equity tiers so the firm could evaluate candidates against real numbers.

    Common Questions

Fusion CPA prices bookkeeping cleanup and catch-up as fixed-fee projects starting at $1,000, with typical projects landing between $1,000 and $7,500 depending on months of backlog, transaction volume, and account count. A year or more of backlog, or multi-entity work, can exceed $10,000. In the 2026 market, standalone cleanup commonly runs $750 to $3,500 for smaller backlogs and $3,500 to $8,000 or more for a year-plus of history. Call 404-955-7338 or email info@fusiontaxes.com to start with a read-only scoping review.

Every Fusion CPA cleanup quote starts with read-only access to the accounting file, so the quote reflects the actual condition of the books rather than a guess. The project is then quoted as a fixed fee with a written scope cap. A common market convention is the monthly bookkeeping rate multiplied by months behind; for example, a business at a $600-per-month scope that is eight months behind commonly sees quotes near $4,800. Fusion CPA never quotes blind.

No. Fusion CPA quotes two paths on every cleanup proposal. Path A is a standalone project at the full fixed-fee rate, with no ongoing commitment. Path B pairs the same project with a 12-month recurring engagement and applies a credit of 25 to 30 percent of the cleanup fee against the first three months of the ongoing service. The client chooses; both paths include the same scoping, scope cap, and findings readout.

A typical Fusion CPA cleanup covers bank and credit card reconciliations for the backlog period, transaction categorization corrections, chart of accounts restructuring, COGS and inventory corrections where applicable, and a caught-up monthly close. Every project ends with a findings readout: a walkthrough of what was fixed, what broke the books in the first place, and what it takes to keep them clean going forward. Final files are delivered at the readout.

It depends on the backlog and the condition of the source data. Smaller projects generally complete within a few weeks; a year or more of backlog across multiple entities can take a couple of months. The timeline is confirmed in writing at scoping, alongside the fixed fee, before any work begins.

The findings readout includes a proposal for keeping the books clean: Fusion CPA’s monthly bookkeeping starts at $399 per month (Foundation), with Scaling from $665 and controller-level oversight from $1,365 (Established).  Full monthly pricing for every service line is published at www.fusiontaxes.com/pricing-structure/

Fusion CPA provides fixed-fee bookkeeping cleanup and catch-up projects for businesses across all 50 states, alongside tax preparation, tax planning, outsourced accounting, and CFO advisory. Cleanup projects start at $1,000, with typical engagements between $1,000 and $7,500 depending on backlog, volume, and account count. Fusion CPA’s cleanup engagements begin with a free 30-minute discovery call followed by read-only access to the accounting file, so the fixed-fee quote reflects the actual condition of the books. The project covers reconciliations, categorization corrections, chart of accounts restructuring, and a caught-up close, and concludes with a findings readout led by the controller services team under Susan Borkowski, CPA.
